I Do: Snack Vote Example Worked example

Question

A class has 28 students. In a snack vote, 25% chose popcorn. How many students chose popcorn?

Steps

25% means 25 out of 100.
Use the direct percent rule: (25 × 28) ÷ 100.
25 × 28 = 700, and 700 ÷ 100 = 7.
Another way: 25% = 0.25, so 28 × 0.25 = 7.
So 7 students chose popcorn.
